Inspire – Group Artists Exhibit: Step It Up

Inspire – Group Artists Exhibit: Step It Up

May 6, 2019 to June 29, 2019

“Inspire” is a small group of local artists who represent the art disciplines of textiles, painting and poetry. Our art is about climate change. Our intent is to deepen the connection between ourselves, our communities, and Nature, and to awaken the desire to take action.

We believe that as we develop awareness of climate change and the threat it poses, we may become overwhelmed and freeze up, unsure of what to do. We share our art and poetry to inspire both hope and action in our audience. We believe that each of us can make a difference. Every action, no matter how small, matters. Our show encourages conversation and commitment. Each of us can step up in some way. When we all join together we are unstoppable. Our art and poetry hope to inspire the unstoppable spirit in all of us.

We open our show with two art receptions during the two-month exhibition. Both featuring performance involving flute, drums and spoken word. We offer people an opportunity to contemplate and respond with what they feel they can do. Their responses are incorporated into an evolving art installation that becomes part of the exhibit. (Performances will be during art receptions only.)

Our painter is Wendy Satsky. Our textile artists are Laurie Gibb and Michelle Naranjo Brackett. Our poets are Cathy Casper and Valerie Szarek.

Art receptions are scheduled for: Saturday, May 11th from 3-6 pm and Sunday June 2nd from 2-5 pm. NCAR's Mesa Laboratory is located at 1850 Table Mesa Drive in Boulder. Its galleries and Visitor Center are open to the public on weekdays from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and on weekends from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. There is no charge for admission.
