Deb Cochrane was born in 1958 in Melbourne, Australia, where she lived, studied and worked until 1990, at which point she moved to Perth, Australia.

Deb studied photography in high school in the 70’s. After being taught for the first time how to compose an image through the viewfinder, process the black and white film and develop the image, she was hooked. The magic of watching the image emerge in the developing solution was life changing.

Her career started in television working as a camera assistant, then becoming a video camera operator. Deb was the first woman to work in the camera department at Channel 9 and became the first female camera person in Australia working in Commercial TV.

Deb’s still photography always remained a passion, but took a back seat to her video work until 2009, when she discovered the beauty of America for the first time when travelling with a friend. It was on that trip that she met her now wife Diane. She moved to Colorado permanently in 2011.

Deb’s inspiration comes from the natural world and from the stunning landscapes of America and Australia. She loves to spend her time in the mountains in Colorado and by the ocean when in Australia. Within those vast landscapes, Deb sees the smaller detail and can pick out a part of the scene and show the viewer the beauty that is often overlooked.

Her image “Grand Tetons” won 3rd place in the National Awards in the 2016 Sony World Photography Competition. The image was also selected in the top 50 internationally.

Deb lives in Erie, Colorado, with Diane and their cat Sasha.
