Fun in the Sun with the HAO 75th Anniversary

The High Altitude Observatory (HAO) at NCAR is celebrating its 75th anniversary with a series of events in late August and early September 2015. HAO scientists study the Sun, space weather, and the uppermost portion of Earth's atmosphere.

The UCAR Center for Science Education has a wealth of educational resources related to solar, space weather, and atmospheric science topics. Here's a sampling of some of those resources, with an emphasis on fun items such as games and interactive visualizations:

Sun Sorting GameSun Sorting Game - has 2 levels... sort features by temperature, or sort multispectral images of the Sun by solar activity level.
Sun Memory GameSun & Space Weather Memory Game - test your memory while viewing stunning images of auroura, the Sun, Earth's magnetosphere, and more!
Compare Solar Eclipse ImagesCompare Solar Eclipse Photos - the Sun's atmosphere looks very different during each solar eclipse. Use this interactive viewer to compare eclipse photos.
Compare Multispectral Sun ImagesCompare Multispectral Sun Images - what does the Sun look like in ultraviolet light? How about X-rays? This interactive viewer let's you see for yourself.
Earth's Energy BalanceEarth's Energy Balance Simulation - how does the brightness of the Sun affect Earth's average temperature? Play with this simulation to find out!
Movie: Three Years of the SunMovie: Three Years of the Sun - spectacular time-lapse video from NASA showing the Sun in ultraviolet and visible wavelengths of light.
Regions & Features of the SunRegions and Features of the Sun - sunspots and filaments and the photosphere... oh my!
Solar Eclipse Memory GameSolar Eclipse Memory Game - another memory test... this one features solar eclipse images.
Sun Teaching BoxSun Teaching Box - a lesson plan for teachers about the features and "parts" of the Sun.
Earth's MagnetosphereSun & Space Weather Image Gallery - great pictures of the Sun, aurora, Earth's magnetosphere, and more!
