Solar Eclipse Event at NCAR
Date: August 21, 2017
Please note: Parking will be very limited at this event. Plan to arrive early, as the access road will be closed once the parking lot is full.
The UCAR Center for Science Education (SciEd) and NCAR’s High Altitude Observatory (HAO) welcome the public to the NCAR Mesa Laboratory on Monday, August 21st to observe a partial solar eclipse. This viewing will be held on the NCAR tree plaza. During the eclipse, the moon will cover 94% of the Sun in Boulder, with the peak partial eclipse occurring at 11:46am. The NCAR Education and Outreach group is providing solar eclipse glasses for safe viewing of the partial eclipse.
In addition to viewing the partial eclipse outside, a continuous live feed of the total eclipse will be shown in the Main Seminar Room of the NCAR Mesa Lab. The feed, provided by the Eclipse Megamovie Project, will show live images and movies from the path of totality as the moon’s shadow crosses the United States from coast to coast. After the eclipse, these images will be combined to create a 90-minute Megamovie.
