Additional GLOBE Weather Resources

Teacher Keys, Online Student Activity Sheets, and so much more!

Wait...even more resources?

As the UCAR team was sharing the GLOBE Weather curriculum at various workshops and conferences across the country, we quickly realized that everyone's experience in teaching weather and/or NGSS was different. To help supplement any areas that might be unfamiliar, we have compiled resources that might be useful as you teach GLOBE Weather.

You will also find a Teacher Key for the Student Activity Sheets and a version of the Students Activity Sheets that are compatible with online learning or one-to-one schools.

Activity Sheet Resources

Teacher Answer Key for Student Activity Sheets:

Student Activity Sheets in Google Classroom

Created in Google Slides, these versions of the student activity sheets are designed to be used with online learning management systems, like Google Classroom. Students use Google Drawings to draw their models digitally. Check out the Digital Student Activity Sheet Guide for more instructions on how to use these activity sheets. Make sure to log into your Google account before copying any of the sheets to your drive.

To copy all files at once into your Google Drive:

  1. Make sure you are signed into your Google Account.
  2. Navigate to the Full Curriculum folder.
  3. Select all files, right-click, and select Make a Copy. This will copy all files into your own Google Drive.
  4. Then assign the worksheets to your students in Google Classroom or another compatible learning management system.

To copy individual files into your Google Drive:

  1. Make sure you are signed into your Google Account.
  2. Select the files you want to copy. (Use the links in the Digital Student Activity Sheet Guide or navigate to a lesson using the Curriculum's Table of Contents.)
  3. Right-click and select Make a Copy. This will copy all files into your own Google Drive.
  4. Then assign the worksheets to your students in Google Classroom or another compatible learning management system.

Additional Ways to Engage Students

Incorporate Your Local Weather Phenomena

  • We realize that although the Colorado storm used in GLOBE Weather is a great anchoring phenomenon, your students may also benefit from including weather events from your local area. Our Incorporating Local Weather into your GLOBE Weather Unit page provides tips for finding historical weather events, weather data from your area, and more!

Other Activity Ideas

Some of these activities were taken directly from workshops that UCAR developed, while others were suggested by GLOBE Weather Educators.

  • Misconception Activity (pdf)
    • Done as an icebreaker during our workshops, this activity could also be done with your students. Each card has a different weather misconception that students can reflect on and discuss in groups (we commonly used the 1-2-4-All strategy for this activity)
  • "Sky Scarf" activity from Leafcutter Designs (shared by one of our GLOBE Weather Educators!)

Online Adaptions for GLOBE Weather

Initially created for online learning during COVID-19, How To Teach GLOBE Weather During At-Home Learning has a list of ideas to help you adapt GLOBE Weather to (1) teaching with live broadcasts, (2) teaching with recorded lessons and independent student work online, and (3) teaching without access to the Internet.
