Snowfall Measurement Science: In Support of Aviation Winter Operations
5:00 – 6:00 pm MST

Snowfall can account for up to 70% of cancellations at airports, with additional delays nationwide downstream of airports impacted by winter weather conditions. Aircraft deicing procedures allow aircraft to safely operate in these conditions but can add to delays in aircraft departures. Join Dr. Scott Landolt, a researcher at the NSF National Center for Atmospheric Research to learn about the challenges associated with snowfall measurement, the science behind aircraft deicing, and how new snowfall measurement techniques are improving airport operations during winter weather conditions.
After Q&A with Scott, learn about free online classroom resources for your students from the UCAR Center for Science Education Center related to today’s webinar.
This webinar is hosted by the National Science Teaching Association (NSTA) as part of their Science Updates web series. Receive a certificate of participation and 100 NSTA activity points for attending the live seminar and completing the end-of-program survey. Certificates of participation are not awarded for watching the recorded version of the program. We invite you to register for upcoming web seminars at NSTA.
