The darker the green color, the more farms there are in the areas of the map above, which shows the percent of farmed acres (in 2007). This is posing a problem in the United States because the center of the country, where there are more farms, is also where there is more drought. As climate change accelerates into the future, more drought is expected in these areas due to more evaporation and less precipitation.
