What Does Storm Surge Look Like?

Created by the NCAR GIS Program for the CHIME project

Researchers at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) are looking for new ways to help people visualize hurricane impacts and learn the importance of getting out of harm’s way. They created this animation to show how quickly nine feet of storm surge can flood a coastal city. The animation was developed based on Hurricane Matthew, which made landfall in the southeast United States in October 2016, and was created using Esri CityEngine - a 3D GIS modeling software for urban environments.
