Not every wildfire is bad.
Occasional small fires add nutrients to soil and clear away dead brush.
Some wildlife and fire-prone areas have ways to stay safe.
But when wildfires grow large and out of control, they can destroy animal habitats,
threaten towns and cities, and pollute the air with smoke.
How can you help prevent wildfires from starting?
Extinguish campfires and don't play with matches.
Report damaged power lines and tell someone if you see a fire or smell smoke.
Cleaning out gutters and other places that collect dry leaves,
pine needles and twigs helps protect homes from wildfires.
