Solar Prominences - Sept. 1999 & March 2003 - Ultraviolet SOHO images
SOHO (ESA & NASA)
Prominences in the Sun's atmosphere as viewed in ultraviolet (UV) 'light' by the SOHO satellite on two different dates. In the image on the left, a large prominence is visible in the upper right on September 14, 1999. There are two huge prominences, in the lower left and lower right, in the image on the right from March 18, 2003. Both images are in the extreme ultraviolet (EUV) region of the electromagnetic spectrum at a wavelength of 30.4 nanometers (30.4 ångströms) and were captured by the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) satellite.
